Cell - Roku TV

John Cusack and Samuel L Jackson in a Stephen King twist of a zombie movie?? Yes, please! I was intrigued. The movie Cell came out in 2016. It is an adaptation of Stephen King's book of the same name.

John Cusack plays Clay, a graphic novelist returning to Boston to patch things up with his son and wife, who had left a year ago. The movie opens up at a busy airport with everyone - you guessed it, on their phones. Clay's phone dies, and while he tries to find a plug, everyone else begins to convulse and turn on each other. Thus, chaos, mayhem, and the zombie apocalypse have begun. The movie's first few minutes are intense as Clay finds his way out of the airport and runs into Tom (Samuel L. Jackson).

The duo makes it to Clay's apartment to understand what is happening. They are joined by Clay's neighbor, Alice (Isabelle Furhman - Orphan, The Hungar Games). Clay is on a mission to find his wife and son. So, with the idea of safety in numbers, Tom and Alice go with him. As you would expect, they meet others along the way - some helpful and some not so much. They learn that the 'phoners' have a pack mentality and sleep at night, yet they are evolving. The movie progresses with new challenges along the way to finding Clay's family and a sanctuary. Cell does follow the stereotypical zombie movie/TV show outline.

Obviously, I don't want to give anything away, but I will say... beware of the ending! I enjoyed the movie because I love John Cusack and Samuel L. Jackson. It was entertaining and had a couple twists, as most Stephen King movies do. However, there is a lot left unexplained. If you like zombie movies, I do recommend it for sure.

Let me know what you think...
